Hermit crabs are great pets for young and old alike. They once were only souvenirs from the beach, but now they can be bought in any pet store. Hermit crabs are wonderful starter pets for kids. They make a great alternative to the more common Guinea pigs or hamsters. Unlike what you might expect if you have never kept hermit crabs, it is possible to play with them. They have distinct personalities of their own.
You should learn good hermit crab care to keep your pet healthy and happy and living a good long life. Here are some hints to get you started.
Before you buy your hermit crab, you need to obtain the necessary equipment and supplies. They will need an aquarium and not those tiny cages you see at the shops by the shore — hermit crabs should have at least a ten-gallon aquarium to move around in. If you are getting more than one crab, you should get a larger aquarium. A pet shop will suggest the best size for the number of crabs you will be keeping. Make sure the aquarium has a tight lid so your crabs don’t escape! Use an appropriate size heater so the tank will maintain the correct temperature.
You will need a substrate for the tank, as well. Three to four inches of sand will be optimal, but you can also use crushed shells or other materials. If you use something other than sand, it is still a good idea to cover a portion of the bottom with sand, so the crabs will have somewhere comfortable to go for molting.
For feeding your hermit crab, you will need to get some commercial hermit crab food. You can also feed small pieces fish occasionally. Also, your crab should have some crushed eggshells or oyster shells to support their calcium levels. It is important to keep their small bones strong and healthy.

As far as kitchen development is concerned I think the kitchen island is just as important as sliced bread. This brilliant concept has been around for a while, but its really taking on a new spin with all the things you can put into your island today. It used to be you only had a little storage and a counter top, now you can run the entire kitchen from just the island area.
It’s pretty easy to have a discussion about kitchen island carts. Many islands are setup for extra eating spaces, with fancy bar stools for seating, a buffet area of sorts where a variety of yummy dishes can be placed. But today’s islands also offer the chef a wide range of options depending on their own cooking habits. My mother has her cooktop range on the island, along with a microwave, a a built in curio cabinet for displaying her favorite collectibles. Other islands I’ve seen have the dishwasher built in, and even appliances like ice makers, trash compactors and small refrigerators. Yes, if you wanted your oven there you could. There’s really no limit to the way you can design your island to meet your needs.
I take that back. The biggest limitation is the size of your kitchen. Some are so small there’s no way a permanent fixture would work, you wouldn’t be able to get around it. To that end you would want to consider a kitchen island cart. Something that’s flexible, movable, something that can be stored out of the way when not in use.
Unfortunately my kitchen is too small to have an island of any great use, but my next home I intend to make sure the kitchen is big enough for one. I think they’re fantastic.

Today’s auto market is becoming more and more varied, with Hummers lining up next to Smart Cars and Geo Metros in dealer lots. One of the first things many people do when they buy a new vehicle is to make it their own by adding custom touches. Bored spouses and kids make in car DVD systems one of the hottest new upgrades on the auto market.
Imagine, you’re headed across the country with your family to visit the in-laws in Omaha, and your kids are driving you crazy. A car DVD system allows you to pop in one of their favorite movies and have them entertained for hours while on the road, now that is pure gold.
There are two main types of in car DVD systems: portable and in-dash. Portable systems, though not as sleek or worry-free as the in-dash systems, are considerably cheaper and more versatile. They are usually powered by your car’s 12-volt power adapter but can be converted to run from your home’s power supply, allowing you to take the DVD player and monitor into your in-laws house when your happy family arrives.
In-dash car DVD systems are hardwired into your vehicle’s entertainment system. They display movies either on a screen in the centre-console, on a screen that descends from the roof of the vehicle, or on a screen which flips up from the dashboard. Though these systems aren’t portable outside the vehicle, once installed they don’t require any extra cords or setup: you can load in your movies and drive away. Screens located either on the centre-console or which flip up from the dashboard can double as displays for in-car GPS or navigation software, but they can be distracting to drivers. The flip-down screens avoid driver distraction, but they are usually only convenient for back-seat viewing, leaving a front seat passenger to count license plates or play I-Spy with the driver.
In car DVD systems are perhaps the biggest boon to the long family road trip since Car Bingo, and as the technology improves you can expect the systems to get smaller, lighter, and cheaper. Though portable systems are still the choice for families on the go since they require no expensive installation or conversion, more and more auto manufacturers have plans to include built-in systems in their vehicles, especially upscale and family autos. It may be tough to find a driver for your next road trip, as the entire family will be stretched out in the back seat, munching on popcorn and watching a film.
