The bicycle is the most efficient way of transportation ever invented. It transforms your energy into movement. But how does it work?

Bicycles are simple and elegant machines that help people get from place to place. It is a lot easier to understand than a motorbike or a car. All the parts of a bicycle are visible, so we can actually see the working parts interacting before our eyes.

Bicycles essentially work on a combination of gears, wheels and people power. Two pedals are connected to one gear, usually at the bottom center of the bicycle. When you push the pedals of your bike around once, the pedal sprocket-the wheel with teeth to which the pedals are attached-goes around once, too. But it pulls a chain along, one that is connected to a much smaller sprocket (with fewer teeth to grip each link of the chain) in the center of your bike’s rear wheel. This smaller sprocket moves around a number of times for each single turn of your pedals, moving your bike wheels a lot faster than you’re moving your feet!

Some bicycles have several “speeds,” which means that they have a number of gears (called derailleurs) that vary the rate at which their wheels turn. These extra sprockets are located at the pedals and rear wheel of a bike, where levers move the driving chain sideways, from one to another. A special spring system keeps the chain tight when it changes from a larger to a smaller sprocket. Although you might think that a rider would always want the wheels of his or her bike to move as fast as possible for each pedal turn, that is not always the case. When going uphill, for instance, a rider can get more force out of a wheel that turns fewer times, making the task easier.

In order to turn right or left, all you have to do is turn the handlebar to the desired side, isn’t it? Wrong! Cyclists turn using their body weight, the handlebar is just for counterbalancing. In fact, in order to run left, you turn a little to the right at first, which will push your weight to the left. This is called countersteering and takes places instinctively. Do it on purpose, and you will fall!

The bicycle has been around as a means of transportation since the 19th century. There are probably over 1 billion worldwide, and they remain a popular way to get around and a great form of exercise.

Everybody in the country, and in fact around the planet, will have experienced the latest worldwide recession in one manner or another, possibly as an individual or as a business owner. It might not have had an immediate effect upon your own position or your individual earnings, but the knock-on result of companies dropping revenue will have influenced the financial predicament of the vast majority of people. It has been a very complicated problem with far reaching implications.

The downturn now appears to be over, or is at the least coming to an end, according to many economic experts. Whilst it might not yet be the moment to celebrate having survived the economic crisis, it should be a time to start looking ahead and preparing for a future in a steady economic climate. It is time to seek out some recession opportunities.

Firms of almost all sizes, trading in all kinds of markets are no doubt going to have to alter their operations in view of the economic depression. This might be after legislation is introduced to more closely govern and monitor the action of global economic companies. Many firms will also be considering ways to make themselves more robust and able to withstand economic instability in the long term.

The Recent Recession

The recession of the early 21st century began in 2007 and progressively spread around the world over the subsequent few years. Several economic analysts attributed the cause of the recession to be the drop in the U.S. property market, which in turn impacted the worth of monetary products tied into real estate assets.

This drop in value then uncovered the vulnerabilities of such a widespread system of credit contracts between global businesses, particularly when much of the system was being backed by subprime lenders who were fiscal risks. A general lack of third-party control of the monetary services market had permitted the creation of a highly complicated web of high-risk credit deals that depended upon a growing economy. Once the first debtors began to fall behind on repayments, the entire house of cards ended up being quick to fall.

The subsequent financial fallout saw many individuals lose their jobs and also lose their homes, whilst many big, international organisations were forced out of business. Governments all over the world had to introduce radical financial programs to help their own banking systems, and still now certain first world countries are struggling to survive financially. Many believe it to have been the toughest economic episode since the depression of the 1930s.

Even suppliers which specialise at supplying email marketing software had to change their operations so as to make it through the credit crunch.

The Impact on Business

It is probably reasonable to state that the economic downturn has had an impact on just about every single business around the world. Certain company models will have been more able to adapt to the extra economic strain than others however they will have nevertheless felt an impact at some section of their operations.

Thousands of small and medium sized businesses have been forced out of business because of the recent recession. Many of these cases will have been comparatively basic; as the general public begin to reduce their spending these types of companies lose income, and since profit margins are often extremely slim in a competitive market place there was very little room to allow for this drop. It is a simple case of supply and demand not meeting in the middle.

Other cases were not so clear cut. There were situations where one company in a lengthy supply cycle had been unable to survive and the knock-on impact would force every company within that supply chain to the edge of bankruptcy. The businesses that were able to survive have had to make incredibly difficult choices to be sure they can outlast the economic collapse.

Job losses have obviously been a very delicate subject to the wide majority of us. It’s estimated that the current number of unemployed individuals in the UK is over 2.3 million (almost 8% of the entire countries’ workforce), and many of these will have been victims of the global economic crisis. These job losses head to a greater drop in typical spending, which triggers a further drop in revenue for business.

The End of Recession

It does appear that the downturn is on its way to an end however, and that can only be great news for business. Gross domestic product (GDP) experienced a rise in the UK during the final quarter of 2009 and total unemployment figures dropped, both of which are signs of an economic system that is recovering. This isn’t a perspective shared by everybody however.

Experts at the International Monetary Fund (IMF) have forecast that the UK economy will actually reduce in size over the course of 2010 and Mervyn King, the Governor of the Bank of England has warned of the danger of wide-spread unemployment persisting. When added to the possibility of a new or even hung government coming into power in May 2010, plus the real need to decrease an enormous financial deficit, the foreseeable future is certainly not set in stone.

This uncertainty may be used as an advantage though, and organisations which are ready to take a few risks or who are willing to adjust their operations to cater for a more cautious audience might be set to make excellent profits.

There is a struggle to win new clients between external 1TB hard drives firms that could present better selection and more affordable prices to consumers.

Price Sensitivity

On the outside it may seem that the obvious technique to use while the overall economy is recovering is to raise your very own retail charges again to a point that offers your business some extra margin of comfort regarding running costs. As the market grows and people feel safer in their careers they will feel relaxed spending extra money, so price increases ought to be an easy thing for consumers to take on.

Actually, several companies might find that they have to keep their prices as small as feasible because the newly provoked price sensitivity amongst the general public. Many of us have had to tighten our belts over the last few years, and just because the hardest of the recession appears to be over, we aren’t all ready to start spending freely just yet. This is a pattern that is tough to exactly quantify, however businesses will need to be aware of how their specific customer sector feels toward spending.

The term price sensitivity describes how important the factor of price is to shoppers any time they are buying a specific product. If a relatively large price shift, for example raising the cost of a car by £1000, does not provoke a large drop in demand for that product then the product is said to be price insensitive. If a relatively small change in price, say increasing the price of a car by only £100, does see a drop in demand then that product is price sensitive. This exact same principle can likewise be applied to consumers themselves, and after a period of economic downturn people are more inclined to be price sensitive.

As a result, the marketplace at large will take great interest in the costs of the items that they are purchasing. Several people may be watching out for deals for everyday items that they require, and particularly their grocery shopping. Several of these products are necessities however.

Firms will be in a position to take advantage of this by using special discounts and price campaigns to attract new consumers into buying their own goods. Shoppers will be a lot more likely than ever to switch from their preferred brands if the price is perfect, and businesses that offer the best priced products are most likely to stand to gain from this.

Cost has recently been one important component for this company that provide high quality items with a verified background.

Financial Security

People’s awareness of the economic system at large and also how it influences us all has significantly increased in light of the economic depression. Prior buying decisions may well have been made according to the quality of the product and its value, but there is actually a fresh aspect that shoppers will be thinking about now.

Recession Proofing

Several firms have suffered bankruptcy in the aftermath of economic collapse. This in turn has left countless numbers of buyers in a very bad predicament. As individuals look to reinvest money into personal savings and shareholdings they will prefer to know that the corporation they are investing in has some type of defense against future recessions. This may merely be a case of operating the business with as little debt as feasible, but anything at all that can be utilised to reassure customers might be a fantastic selling point for a company.

Price Guarantees

One particular very visible feature of the recent economic downturn in the Uk was the sharp decrease in the interest rate. After this change had precipitated itself through the high street retailers and monetary services organisations many people discovered that they were either struggling as a consequence or reaping a monetary benefit. Either way, it certainly elevated the profile of the impact that a fluctuating interest rate can have on everyday economic products.

Shoppers who are seeking to open new savings accounts or private pensions may be worried that if the economic downturn does in fact drag on for much longer they will not be generating any significant interest on their investments. In reality, the tough economy may still take a turn for the worst and interest rates could drop again. In this scenario, a savings product that provides a guaranteed rate of return will become a very attractive choice. This technique can be used to appeal to many new savings customers.

The exact same can be said for consumers with credit agreements. If the recession really is genuinely over and the international market starts to recuperate much more swiftly than many anticipate, then it might not be long before we see a rise in interest rates. This would mean that customers would need to pay much more each month for their mortgages and loans.

A similar approach was utilised by a number of companies after the rate of Value Added Tax (VAT) increased from 15% to 17.5% in early 2010. These companies would offer “price freezes” on their goods for a particular time period in an attempt to retain their existing consumers and draw new clients in. This kind of price freeze allowed a buffer time for consumers to adapt to the new VAT rate.

Conclusion

Whether the recession is completely over yet or not, it has functioned as a firm reminder that no business can afford to be complacent with their own situation of survival. Business owners must always seek to consolidate their position and improve their operations where possible.

Practically every company on the planet sets out with the main objective of making money. This is usually done by manufacturing some form of product, or offering a service, and then charging people money for it.

First of all, it is a very rare case that a business can offer a product or service that is truly unique and cannot be provided by anybody else. This means that your enterprise will be contesting with other businesses that sell a similar item and you will both be trying to earn money from the same customers, who only want to spend their money once.

Marketing is the main tool used by modern businesses to draw potential customers to do business with them and not with their rivals. It is a very extensive topic that is influenced by a great number of internal and external factors, but when done well it can be the one business practice that can make or break a company. Any time spent on marketing will reap benefits, although spending this time correctly can yield extraordinary results.

So where should you begin when creating a marketing strategy for your own company? Well, every situation is different, and each industry will have its own set of strengths and weaknesses that must be taken into consideration, but there is a marketing rule that can be applied to almost any corporation to be used as a marketing framework.

The Marketing Mix

The marketing mix was a phrase that was first coined in the 1950′s and is a phrase that is used to express the fundamental building blocks of any marketing strategy. It demonstrates the fact that marketing is not a simple, blunt-edged business technique, but rather a subtle balance of different aspects of business functions.

The term was later developed to include the concept of “four P’s” that described the essential elements of the marketing mix. The formalisation of these P’s made it very easy for business managers and marketers to quickly associate the elements of marketing to the strengths of their own organisations, and by doing so could very quickly create a tailored and efficient marketing plan.

The “product” aspect of the four P’s can refer to any service, like conference production company, or any non-physical service being offered for sale by a company.

Product

Whilst every aspect of the marketing mix is a requirement, the “product” element mentioned as one of the four P’s is perhaps the most crucial of all. It describes the physical product or intangible service that your business will be selling, and at the end of the day it is the reason that customers are going to spend money with you. If this element is not correctly managed then your company will find it hard to survive.

Several people don’t think that marketing has any place to play when it comes to the actual product that your company is selling. In fact, the typical train of thought very often bears the exact opposite sentiment. Surely it should be the other way around – your manufacturing department creates a product for sale and then it is the job of the marketing department to find ways to sell it, right? This is not always the case.

Take the computer software market as an example. There are many established brands of both operating system and software application solutions in the market already, and since the market is relatively well saturated it would be very tough (and expensive) to “take on the big boys”. So how could the principles of the marketing mix help in this circumstance?

Rather than creating an operating system and then trying to craft a marketing strategy to take on the likes of Microsoft or Apple, it would be more effective to look at what types of product are sought after in the current marketplace, and how viable it would be to produce and sell them. By being aware of the marketing mix early on in your product development cycle you can avoid business dead-ends at a later time.

Once your goods have been designed and created it is still a vital skill to be able to objectively evaluate your own products to recognise the reasons why a customer would buy your product rather than a competitors’.

A different form of this part of the marketing mix is called product variation and is typically used to either prolong the lifecycle of a product currently in the market, or to make your new product attractive to as many consumers as possible. Once again, this technique can be applied at all stages of product development.

The motor industry uses this technique very effectively by offering different engines, trim packages and interior options with the cars that they offer. They use the marketing mix to good effect to sell their own goods in an extremely competitive marketplace. Although these companies may have substantial marketing budgets, the same concepts can be applied to all companies.

As part of our own promotion method, our business thoroughly researched exactly what made our goods stand out from the crowd.

Marketing plays a crucial role in any business plan and it should not get treated like an afterthought.

Price

Another important factor in the marketing mix concerns the price of your products or services. This isn’t a simple case of carrying out market research to figure out the top price that your customers would pay (although that can be a useful tool to use), but rather using the price of your products as a strategic weapon designed to achieve any specific goals your business has.

Although it may seem obvious, it is still worth pointing out that price has always been, and likely always will be, one of the key factors that customers take into account when they are making a purchase. It is also worth noting that customers do not constantly consider the lowest price to be the best value.

There are many questions that you need to ask yourself while devising a good pricing strategy, key amongst which are the price sensitivity of your customers, what your competitors are doing and how can pricing boost your own profits. From a strategy point of view though, pricing can be covered by two primary principals; price skimming and penetration pricing.

Price skimming

The main idea behind price skimming is to make as much money as possible from the segment of the market which is price-insensitive and are going to be willing to spend a large amount of money to get a product or service early on.

This pricing technique is frequently used in the consumer electronics industry where customers will often eagerly await the launch of a new mobile phone or computer games console. Makers could set almost any price they wanted to and there would still be a loyal base of customers that would pay it.

Penetration pricing

Penetration pricing is at the opposite end of the pricing spectrum, and is tailored towards gaining a large market share at a short-term cost so that monetary rewards can be made long into the future. It can be a high risk strategy, but when employed correctly it can create revenue streams for many years to come. When setting a price for penetration it is still critical to not give a poor impression of your product by aiming for too low a figure.

Another thing to bear in mind is that “price” is the one part of the marketing mix that will generate revenue for a business. The other members of the four P’s will all cost money to create or undertake.

Following using on-line tools to compare key phrase lookup frequency we identified whale hermanus to lead our campaign for online promotion as well as off-line.

Place

Place is the part of the marketing mix that’s often not addressed by companies, but it is still a significant part of selling your product effectively. In short, it describes the method in which you provide your product to your consumer, and consequently how you receive money from them.

The most common ramifications of place-based marketing are the physical locations in which your goods are sold. For the majority of consumer products, this includes the distribution infrastructure between your production centres and shops or other outlets around the country. Since distribution of a physical product costs money it is crucial to identify your own priorities and modify your distribution network appropriately. This is the main use of this element of the marketing mix.

With the increasing use of the Internet by your prospective customers, marketing strategies have had to consider how they use the Internet to help distribute their products. By using the Internet as a point of contact (or even as an entire distribution channel in download-based markets such as MP3s) firms are now able to reach out to a huge pool of potential customers.

Promotion

When you mention the word “marketing”, most people instantly think of the promotional aspect of the marketing mix, although as we have seen, this is only one branch of a more comprehensive system. Promotion can be used on a very individual basis or as a mass communication tool, and whilst it may be an expensive undertaking it is often an essential one. The key concern of promotion is to deliver a certain message that will increase sales.

Advertising is one of the most typical forms of promotion. Typically it would be done by posting on billboards, creating short clips for TV and radio or by physically distributing flyers or leaflets to potential customers. With the coming of the information age we have seen a great increase in promotion via e-mail and the Internet, or simply as targeted advertising material posted through your door.

Another significant part of promotion involves branding, which will not necessarily yield more product sales directly, but relates back to one of the preliminary functions of marketing; getting customers to choose your product over those of your competitors. When all other parts of the marketing mix are equal it can be branding that sways a customer’s decision.

Putting it into Practice

As previously mentioned every company is different and will have different marketing needs. By using a balance of the four P’s discussed above you can take an effective view of your own marketing strategy.

It merely means that many of us choose to invest our money toward other things. Bed sheets are nothing but fabric clothing that is used for the purpose of covering the mattress that we lie on. Of course this has nothing to do with preciousbedding usually. Scent-Sation sheets are not truly satin, they are manufactured from 300 count woven polyester that acts and feels exactly like satin.

If you are considering shopping for silk sheets, you should just go ahead and pay for the most comfortable sheets on the market. Before one starts to purchase materials and accessories for his or her beds one has to make a note of many points that are quite very much essential for one to note down before getting a bed spread or a bed sheet. Usually this is similar to precious bedding to many consumers. You could be thrilled to hear that you could actually clean these sheets in your washer.

Microfiber sheets have improved quite a bit lately regarding quality and texture. The color of the mattress is more important. This is why many people prefer preciousbedding to the general public. Also the exact size of the mattress should be known as because at times the bed spread that is purchased might not be of the size as that of the mattress.

One retailer has supplied these silky smooth and virtually bullet proof sheets to luxury hotels including the Four Seasons, and is now nice enough to make them available to regular folks. This is because if a light bed sheet is laid and spread on a dark bed then this may spoil the look of the bed as the dark colored mattress will be clearly seen through the light colored bed sheet. It is a pleasant thought, though, to know that if we seriously wish to have one excellent set of sheets for a specific night, a lot of of us may come up with a plan to make it work. So think before you decide and buy the bed spreads.

Choosing the perfect halo diamond engagement rings can be overwhelming, especially because of the numerous varieties available. It’s best that you get yourself acquainted with the styles and settings of the engagement rings so that you know more and are able to segregate easily between what you want and what you don’t.

The basic styles of a diamond halo ring are:

Solitaire: It’s the epitome of all the rings styles, something your sweet heart must have surely envisioned for herself. In this a diamond or some other gemstone is set- up a little higher above the others and garners the maximum attention in the ring. Since the most prominent stone in these rings is generally substantial in size these are more expensive too.

Bridal Set: In these sets you get the ring along with the matching wedding band. Some sets also include the groom’s wedding band. This choice is rather economical and you will have the bridal jewelry set in perfect harmony. However the designs available in these may not be as myriad as the others, taking a chunk of individuality away from your choice of the ring. However if you know your fiance would like to wear both the wedding band and the engagement ring together then this is a perfect choice.

Finding a great diamond is a process that could take months. Research and use the information. By this, I mean that if you must ask questions of the salesperson, and you must, do not ask foolish questions that give away your lack of knowledge. Diamonds range in appearance from colorless to black. Even so, almost all diamonds have a slight to heavy yellow tinge. The clearer the color, or in this case, lack of color, the purer the diamond. This is why some diamonds are set in yellow gold. The gold background helps to mask the yellow of the diamond. A clear, pure diamond will stand out strikingly from others of poor quality, and the best ones can go into white gold or platinum halo engagement rings. Look for that diamond that stands out.

Eternity band: This band signifies the two souls bound together by unending love. It consists of a continuous band which has been encrusted with diamonds all along. A prong setting might be used to accentuate the diamonds. You have to be mindful of the size of these bands as they cannot be re-sized.

Semi-eternity band: This type of engagement ring is similar to the eternity band but instead of the whole band being covered by diamonds, only a part of the band has them. This type of setting provides the beauty of the eternity band at a reduced price.

The following is a journal my wife kept when we first met our number four cat Bobby Boop. You can find out more at our blog Cat Behaviour Maven

Chapter 1

On Friday morning, October 27, 2000, I thought I heard a bird in the backyard; sound was
a bit odd, but we do get wonderful and strange sounding birds. Also heard the bird for the short time that we were home Saturday. Woke up very early Sunday morning, fed the cats, cleaned their box, made a pot of coffee and brought in the newspaper. Read the funnies and a terrific article in one of the magazines. Bird still there, odd I thought, so clad in my nightgown and light jacket, I went into the backyard to find the bird. Thought it might be injured and was not sure what or how I would care for it, but anyway, tracked the noise to the pool equipment area and climbed around in there (not easy) and found, on top of a pile of wet leaves, a kitten.

By then Ira woke up. He said the mother cat would be around for the creature, so we put it in a box and tried to keep it warm and out of the drizzle. Four hours later Ira decided that even if the mother did return, what chance did the creature have outside. Besides, we think creature had been there for several days (I am sure Mom was around). Ira went to the pet store and bought kitten formula and bottles. The kitten now lives in a large box in our bathroom where it is warm. While Ira was at the pet store I downloaded instructions on the care of orphaned kittens. Have not seen Mom, whoever she may be.

I took the creature to the vet on Monday, October 30. He is about 10 to 14 days old and has a bit of a cold. Doctor did not want to give him mediation, but creature sneezed one time too many, so we have amoxicillan – 3 drops every 12 hours. Creature goes back in 2 weeks. In the meantime, I mix up kitty formula, bottle feed it, burp it and potty it. All the while, of course, mindful that it could have feline leukemia. (Feline leukemia is similar to Aids in humans. It is highly contagious to cats and there is no cure.)

Our three cats did not get their feline leukemia booster shots this year because the current thinking on the subject is that the boosters could cause skin cancer. Not often, but with indoor cats, why chance it. So after I brought the creature home I loaded our 3 cats in carriers and took them for their boosters since the Doctor said it would be a very good idea to get this done ASAP.

Anyway, creature’s name is Bobby Boop. He still has several challenges ahead of him. He
has to survive the trauma of kittenhood, he has to get over the cold and hopefully he will test clean for feline leukemia. Please say a prayer for him. He cannot be tested until he is at least 6 weeks old.

For the next month I have to keep him isolated and use plenty of disinfectant, etc. We pray for Bobby Boop. Oh yes, he is not exactly black, but almost black and you can see tiger stripes of gold-orange down his back and just a touch of white under his chin.

We are going to Las Vegas from December 1 to 5 and I have to find a home for him for those 5 days. He cannot be boarded because he has not had shots, etc. and he needs special care because he is so young. He will be old enough to be tested for feline leukemia when we return; we hope he will test clean so we can add this creature to our family. He weighed 8 ounces when I found him.
