Vitamins have enjoyed some positive publicity over the last few years, but they are not magic pills. Having said that, it is very tempting to think of them that way. Anything that’s as easy to take as a vitamin supplement that offers eternal youth, look younger, help protect against serious conditions like cancer and heart disease, strengthen your immune system, fight off illness, help you handle anxiety attack and boost your energy sure does sounds enticingly miraculous or magical.

A few decades ago, when people first began talking about the preventive potential of nutritional supplements, people concerned about their health started to clamber for bottled nutrients and were desperate to be told if they could be used as part of a liver detox diet regime. As it turned out, so did health writers and even some people in the medical profession. As the stories broke out, the rumor was that megadoses of vitamins could cure anything. Simply load up with plenty of the life enhancing vitamins, and bingo! Perfect health was just round the corner.

As luck would have, things weren’t quite that simple. As we now know, vitamin pills, no matter how good they are, simply aren’t a cure-all. They do, however, have an important part in our diets. Research breakthroughs over just the past few years are generating interest in this vital subject once again. Many newly discovered features about the healing power of these vital nutrients will amaze you.

Let’s take a brief look at just one study that didn’t get all that much publicity. Scientists in the UK monitored 200 people working in management roles within the manufacturing industry. During the study, half of the participants took a complete health supplement and another group a look-alike pill that did not contain nutrients. The test lasted 2 months, at the end, the people taking the vitamins felt a definite improvement in their quality of life and wellbeing.

The control group (those taking the placebo) felt no different than at the beginning of the study. The scientists determined that the vitamins and minerals appeared to make a positive impact on improving the employees stress levels, attitudes and general well being. And all from a simple vitamin and mineral supplement… with hard scientific data confirming that it works.

As more and more rigorous scientific studies accumulate giving more evidence to the life enhancing powers of vitamins, especially when they are included as part of a herbal detox diet, we’re right back where we were twenty years ago: eager to make use of these health enhancing properties – yet totally overwhelmed with the mass of mis-information on the subject. While the reasons for taking vitamins and minerals are now supported by scientific research, shopping for nutrients is still nothing less than overwhelming.

Make sure you discuss with your doctor prior to accepting medical advice received from non medical sources.
