If you’re like most people you’ve got way too much “stuff”. Where does it all come from and why do we accumulate so much of it? Even the largest homes eventually get filled with stuff of all kinds – toys, books, dishes, clothing, shoes, furniture, packing boxes, old gadgets and gifts by the hundreds.
Of course you can go through your stuff every couple of years and get rid of all the things that you can see no need for. Disposing of things doesn’t necessarily mean actually throwing them out or giving them away – even though that is probably what you should do with most of it. In some cases you may get industrious and get together neighbours to hold a area yard sale.
Another way to deal with your stuff is to use domestic self storage. This is probably the best way to free your home from the clutter without having to actually dispose of it.
Many times a temporary storage solution is the best option. For example you may decide to renovate the lower floor of your home, or remodel a bathroom or your kitchen. When that happens it is not usually possible to just move furniture from one area of your home to another area.
If you have a storage area in your home you probably won’t be able to move everything there because it is probably cluttered with stuff. So something has to give.
You’ll find it isn’t necessary to rearrange your entire home because it is often easier just to rent self storage space for a few months while the renovation is being done. Often renting a self storage space is an eye opener because you realize just how much junk you’ve accumulated.
The nice thing about renting domestic self storage space, rather than, say, moving your things to a friend’s back room or garage is that it is kept safe and dry. It is also accessible just about any time of the night or day, and it is insured against theft, fire, or other kinds of damage.
